strengthen & Protect Your Damaged Teeth with a Crown

Also called a cap, a tooth crown can save a damaged tooth that is not yet lost by restoring its shape, appearance, and function. Dr. Lawson can apply this hollow, artificial tooth to cover and repair your damaged or decayed tooth. A crown may be required if you have had a root canal, a large filling in a tooth or a broken tooth. The crown restores the tooth and protects it from further damage. Crowns allow teeth to function and look just like normal teeth once again.

Your crown can be made of porcelain, gold or a combination of both. Gold is an excellent choice for back teeth that bear a heavy load. Meanwhile, porcelain crowns for front teeth can be made to appear like natural teeth.

Applying a Crown

In order to apply the cap-like crown, the dentist must first file down the damaged tooth to make room for the crown itself. After taking an impression of the filed down tooth area, the final crown is custom made to fit perfect in your mouth. Until this final crown is completed, the dentist will apply a temporary crown to last until your next visit when the final product can be replaced. If the final crown fits and requires no further adjustments it will be cemented in place.

Schedule your appointment today to discuss if a crown is the right option for you teeth.
